My individual presentation was about Cognitive Load Theory.
It covered three major topics: 1) human cognitive architecture, 2) cognitive load theory, and 3) instructional design principles and practices based on CLT.
CLT is a theory that attempts to explain the relationship between learning and cognitive load. It explains the right ways of managing mental load during instruction to obtain the best outcomes. The right management if mental load helps learners build and strengthen schema in long-term memory, meaning that learning is long-lasting.
Working on this presentation helped me understand a new theory that addresses a very important aspect of learning and cognition. CLT can be implemented in many practices for educators and educational developers.
